Title screen
薄氷上の華 〜 Snowy_country {{{titleEN}}}

This is the opening theme.
It has a cold feeling to it, like ice or snow~.
Perhaps I blended in some dreariness, suspicion and idiocy too?
I'm really bad with mornings in winter; I get so sleepy.
I just want to stay put in my futon.
Or maybe under a kotatsu.
Ghosts show up a lot in summer, so maybe they dislike winter too?
They're all dressed pretty lightly, after all.

...Where do they get their clothes...?

Stage 1 - Shrine Road's theme
爛れ過ぎた平穏 〜 be motivated {{{titleEN}}}

This is the first stage theme.
If you've played the previous game, you'll probably think
"wait, huh?" as soon as you hear this theme.
That's because I cut corne... *cough* *cough*, uh, wanted to call back to the previous game.
The chord progression and drum part are exactly the same as the previous first stage theme.
Despite it practically being a copy, though, it took about the same time to compose. How weird.
If I knew I was gonna do this from the start, though, I should've made the first song
in a more obviously seasonal image...

Following this pattern, it looks like I'll have to make two more songs like this.

Stage 1 Boss - Sese Kitsugai's theme
ムクロマンサー 〜 抜け殻の夢 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Sese, the stage 1 boss.
I had to make not only this song, but all the songs this time around really quickly.
Because of that, I just made whatever melodies that came to me into songs,
and so compared to the songs in the previous two games the melodies are quite different.
This really is a strange song, though~. But I feel like it does give off a bony impression.

Come to think of it, this song's melody is a lot like that of a certain song from the last game.
...Is there perhaps... Some connection?

Anyway, I wonder if Sese will end up being some really important character or something?

Stage 2 - River's theme
くぐもる冷気、鎮もる霊気 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the second stage theme.
The protagonists are heading straight to their destination this time,
so I wanted to create a "let's go!"-like atmosphere. ("Wanted to" being the operative word.)
Well, the boss theme is more like "let's go!",
but I hope this still works well to raise the tension as a prelude to that.

The song title?

...well, uh, it's just a pun.[lower-alpha 1] What about it?

Stage 2 boss - Tsugumi Umatachi's theme
ゲットレディー号 〜 to_run_around! {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Tsugumi, the stage 2 boss.
They ride across the wilderness on an eggplant, disappearing into the sunset.
Such a gallant, stoic image...

No no no, it doesn't matter how I imagine it, that's just no good.
An eggplant as a steed is just no good. A cucumber is even worse!
But what about other vegetables...? Maybe a tomato or a cob of corn?
....Maybe an eggplant is best after all.

The song has a good sense of speed, even though they're riding a shouryou-ushi of all things.[lower-alpha 2]

By the way, I'm interested in horses but I really don't know anything about them.

Maybe Tsugumi is actually a really important character?
This song is a lot like the title theme, after all.

Stage 3 - Giant's Burrow's theme
フォーリンゴースト {{{titleEN}}}

This is the third stage theme.
This is also a rather simple song~.
But it is a stage song, so keeping it around this level
of simplicity might be good. It's less tiring, for one.

I've been infected with the "desire to try out instruments you ordinarily never use" disease.
The song's seriously filled with a bunch of sounds I never use otherwise.

Stage 3 boss - Fujiwara no Iyozane's theme
幽暗海峡ヨーソロー {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Iyozane, the stage 3 boss.
This is the most different out of all my songs so far.
Did I really make this?

Riding in a little boat across the dark ocean, sights
set on the horizon, and being greeted by sunrise...
Maybe the song has that sort of atmosphere?
It's creepy but also really cool, so it's probably too good for a stage 3 boss. (Hey!)
Well, it's true that Iyozane is one of the central characters in this story.
It's just that the bosses from here on out are all non-standard.
Iyozane's actually really strong. Definitely. Probably. Possibly.

I only noticed after I made it, but this song has almost the same melody as another song I made.
I guess it's just another one of my usual songs after all, tee-hee.

Stage 4 - Cavern From Which Frost is Born's theme
それぞれの思惑と足跡 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the fourth stage theme.
The player groups are this stage's bosses,
so I tried to base this theme on the melody of Len'en's main theme.

The theme itself is surprisingly simple, isn't it?
Even so, I might have made it a bit too flamboyant. The boss themes are nothing special by comparison. (Hey!)

All these Mugenri folks only ever do as they please, huh.

Stage 4 boss - Sukune Katano and Adagumo no Yaorochi's theme
ただ空五倍子に、ただ一筋に {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Yaorochi and Sukune, the stage 4 bosses.
The kanji for "beige" are read as "utsubushi", but I can never read them.
The melody is largely split into two, but you could say the same thing about all the bosses of this stage.
Well, that's because you're up against a pair of characters.

The focus is on both bosses, so I couldn't emphasise a single melody.
This means that there isn't much of a climax overall,
but stage 4 is that sort of stage anyway. (*serious face*

I don't know whether this theme is cute or ominous.
It's really Japanese-style... or could you say it feels like a truly "Edo" theme?
...The hell you talkin' about?![lower-alpha 3]

Stage 4 boss - Kuroji Shitodo and Adagumo no Saragimaru's theme
キープザヒストリー {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Kuroji and Saragimaru, the stage 4 bosses.
It's basically an arrangement of "End of History,"
one of the tracks from Evanescent Existence.
It'd be boring if it was just a plain old arrangement, though,
so I was like "let's arrange it without listening to the original theme!"
and relied on my memory alone. I basically just let myself have fun with it.
I guess it's already been over a year since I last heard the original, right?
After I finished the arrangement, I went back to listen to the original, and they're pretty close.
This proves that my composition tastes haven't changed,
even though I added new melodies. I wanna improve!
Still, the theme has had an image change and sounds fresher. Is it because Kuroji has made their Mugenri début?

There's no hint of the theme song for the one whose name sounds like what you get when you mix salt or lard with pork mince, turn it into a sausage, and cure it by drying it out...
but they're just a measly servant, so I guess that's only natural?

Stage 4 boss - Yabusame Houlen and Tsubakura Enraku's theme
ダブルキーパー 〜 魄い盧のつがひ鳥 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Yabusame and Tsubakura, the stage 4 bosses.
This piece has two melodies as well.
Because they're a fluffy couple, I made the tune quite light.
There seems to be a familiar melody mixed in too somewhere,
but surely it's just your imagination?

These bosses don't have much to do with the story,
so it's more of an extra stage.
I didn't make it very elaborate since it's not supposed to stand out much.

They sure use a lot of relentless danmaku, though.
You are fighting them both at once, so it figures, right?

Stage 5 - Spirits' Crossing's theme
夢に忘れた尊き蛍火 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the fifth stage theme.
It's such a daaaaark theeeme!
There's so much, like, pathos to it.
Isn't it like that Buddhist phrase "all worldly things are transient"?

Well, stage 5 is quite important in this game,
so this track feels more thematic than the others.
I mean, it technically is the final stage, after all. It's also the "gateway to success". It's tough, but once you're through, there's only a little bit to go!

The theme gets way more exuberant partway through,
but when you listen to it you'll probably feel all depressed.
Even so, I'm fond of themes like this.

Stage 5 boss - Taira no Fumikado's theme
ムーンチャイルド 〜 Homunculus Dream {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Taira no Fumikado, the stage 5 boss.
Even though they're a stage 5 boss, this theme is so looong!
Rather than loop from the beginning, the final phrase just keeps repeating.
The stage 6 boss is kind of an add-on boss, so Fumikado's really the final boss of this game.
In fact, they were the stage 6 boss when I began developing the game,
but stuff happened and they were demoted. Poor thing. (*not my problem*

Their theme features the same melody as Iyozane's.
It's intended to show that they're fellow members of the same group.
The group that Iyozane and Fumikado are members of is quite grand in scale,
so I thought it'd be better to include a melody that would become a "theme" for it.
Well, they're planned to show up in a later work, so the details can wait until then...

Because Fumikado's a homunculus, I wanted to make this theme
feel a bit biotechnological. How do you think I did?

Stage 6 - Withered Grove's theme
アフターオール {{{titleEN}}}

This is the sixth stage theme.
It's a short song.
As usual, the final stage is short.

The song title means "yep, that's it after all."
I tried to represent the feelings of the protagonists who came up here.
...So "a total waste of effort," basically.

It's a bonus stage, so it's okay even if you don't beat the boss.
The stage enemies are just there to drop items, too.

Now that you've made it this far, just take it nice an' easy.

Stage 6 boss - Shion's theme
縁から外れた名前 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Shion, the stage 6 boss.
They're a "bonus"/"hidden" sort of final boss. Your soul count constantly drains during the fight, and they gulp down a bunch with each spell.
When you run out of souls, the fight ends then and there.
You'll still have cleared the game, though, so don't sweat it too much. ♪

It's a really long song, though~. I remade it several times,
but it was actually even longer before. This is the short version, honest!
The amount of distinct phrases is small, so it feels like it's repeating the same melody over and
over? Add in their character background, and it really feels like your mind's getting worn down...

This character didn't even exist in the initial planning stages,
but before you knew it, boom! They shot up to stage 6 boss. How mysterious.
An aggregate of consciousness and ego. Will they be a new resident of the Senri Shrine?

Extra Stage - Road Traveled by Light's theme
空を広くする喪失道 {{{titleEN}}}

This is the Extra Stage theme.
Humans (or perhaps youkai) soaring gracefully through the sky. It looks like the idiot hero's blunder turned into a real big problem, huh?
And the real cause of the incident is in the Extra Stage. Imagine that!
The bonus stage is the main story? Who even wrote this thing?

But this Extra Stage tosses in a bunch of pretty important topics.
For those commendable folks who want to know more of Mugenri and Senri's backstory,
perhaps it'd be good to play through with all the characters? There's tons of foreshadowing.

The star character is someone with a fateful connection to a certain fateful jerk.
Fateful connections all around! That's Len'en for you! (*smug seriousface*)

None of this has anything to do with the song...

Extra Stage boss - Tenkai Zuifeng's theme
顕界オーバーホール {{{titleEN}}}

This is the theme of Tenkai Zuifeng, the Extra Stage boss.
One of Mugenri's former overlords, and partner in crime to Tsurubami Senri, the former Senri priest.
They're only an apprentice barrier-smith, but they're one of the strongest people in Mugenri.

Whoops, I almost forgot to comment on the actual song again.
The tune puts emphasis on the Japanese-style feel and tempo,
but it's got a bit of a thorny atmosphere as well.
It feels sociable, but exclusionary at the same time.
Perhaps that's perfect for Tenkai?

--I said I'd comment on the song, but with my vocabulary, I can only give a vague fluffy kind of explanation! Oh nooo!!
At any rate, the... the tempo is great, isn't it?! Yeah!
Feel it! Observe it! Repent thy sins!

This is the theme of the hidden Extra Stage boss.
When you trace the whole thing back to its source, you could say
that this boss, in a way, is the main cause of the revival plot.
Their true identity might not be explained in the main story,
but there are some things that needn't be said, right?

They use nothing but loathsome danmaku, but there aren't many spell cards,
so do your best! ♪

The boss fight itself isn't that long, so the theme is short too.
It's also quite slow compared to other boss themes, and there are less melodic patterns.

I used the same melody as heard in the main theme, but...
...well, that's what it is. (But what is it?)

Ending theme
徒爾に終わりし道すがら {{{titleEN}}}

なーんつってn(ここから先は血で汚れて読めない)

This is the ending theme.
It's a purely Japanese-style piece.
Matched with the ending screens, it feels happy and nonchalant.

It kind of feels like it belongs in a certain roguelike game,
but I didn't steal it! I didn't steal it at all...!

By the way, you can also say "on one's way" instead of "walking a road", can't you?

Well, the first of those is pronounced the same as "futility" in Japanese (toji)!

D'you get it? D'you get the pu-- (the section beyond is bloodstained and therefore illegible).

Staff Roll theme
蜉蝣の城 〜 Phantom_VISION {{{titleEN}}}

Yep, this is the staff roll theme.
It's a bright and refreshing one, for once.
But within that brightness lies transience, or perhaps sorrow...
Well, that's kinda how it is. (fluffy impressions once again)

If I had to say, I guess this theme is based on Fumikado and Iyozane?
But I guess you could also say it's Yabusame and Tsubakura's theme, if you look at it broadly?
Perhaps it isn't anyone's theme after all?
Well, that's kinda how it is. (messy explanation once again)

By the way, the staff roll is a minigame, too.
If you do your best and dodge until the very end, I might give you a bit of a present...?
Well, the present is unavoidable. (Though I guess someone out there could avoid it.)
